Ferry from Newhaven to Le Havre

From Newhaven, Le Havre is one four-hour crossing and a 90-minute drive away, even though no ferry sails between the two ports and never has. DFDS runs Newhaven to Dieppe up to twice a day, and since the Portsmouth to Le Havre route ended in September 2026 this is the closest any ferry gets to Le Havre. From Dieppe it is about 70 miles along the coast via the D925 and A29, with the Pont de Normandie a short detour if Honfleur is on your list.

Our experience
We have sailed Dover–Calais with every operator on the route. P&O Ferries stood out for us: competitive fares, modern ships and plenty of clean, comfortable space inside and out on deck. For most travellers heading to France, it’s usually the quickest and best-value way across.
Who sails the alternatives
DFDS operates Newhaven to Dieppe year-round, with a daytime and an overnight sailing on most days. Cars, campervans, motorcycles, bicycles and foot passengers are all carried. No operator sails to Le Havre itself any more: Brittany Ferries withdrew the Portsmouth route on 16 September 2026.
