Ferry services from Newhaven to Dieppe
DFDS operates the Newhaven – Dieppe route throughout the year, offering a mix of daytime and overnight sailings. Cars, motorhomes, motorcycles, bicycles and foot passengers are all welcome. The crossing takes around four hours, making it a middle ground between the short Dover crossings and the longer Brittany Ferries routes.

The Newhaven – Dieppe ferry is a straightforward and comfortable crossing rather than a floating resort. On board you’ll typically find lounges, a restaurant or café, a bar, duty-free shopping and outdoor deck space. The atmosphere is often noticeably quieter than the Dover routes, making it a pleasant place to relax, read a book or enjoy the Channel views during the crossing.
From Dieppe into Normandy and northern France
Dieppe itself is a pleasant Normandy port town with a beach, marina and historic centre. Rouen is around an hour away, while the Normandy coast, Bayeux, Honfleur and Paris are all realistic onward destinations. The route also provides good access to northern France and Belgium.
By car
For drivers heading to Normandy, Rouen or Paris, Newhaven – Dieppe can be a very sensible alternative to Dover. The crossing is longer, but you arrive further south and avoid some of the congestion associated with the busiest Channel ports. If a relaxed journey matters more than absolute speed, this route deserves consideration.
