If your destination is Dieppe, driving around 90 miles (145 km) from Portsmouth to Newhaven is usually worthwhile, as it avoids the onward drive in France. Staying in Portsmouth and sailing to Le Havre is the better choice if you already plan to explore Normandy or travel further west.
