Ferry from Dover to Calais

This is the busiest and fastest crossing between England and France, and for good reason. At around 90 minutes with sailings throughout the day, it’s hard to beat for convenience, and three operators keep fares competitive. For anyone heading to northern France or onwards to Paris, this is usually the smartest choice.

Our experience
We have sailed Dover–Calais with every operator on the route. P&O Ferries stood out for us: competitive fares, modern ships and plenty of clean, comfortable space inside and out on deck. For most travellers heading to France, it’s usually the quickest and best-value way across.

Onboard experience
The Dover to Calais crossing runs on large roll-on roll-off ferries built for speed and frequency rather than leisure. With a sailing of around 90 minutes, you’ll find cafes for coffee, snacks and a hot meal, plus duty-free shopping and plenty of seating inside and out on deck. It’s comfortable and easy, but don’t expect extensive entertainment, you’re across before you’d settle into it.
