We have narrowed your options for crossing the Channel down to only four routes. These are the shortest and cheapest ways to cross the Channel between England and France. The other routes (indicated in grey on the interactive route map) are much longer and therefore more expensive.
The most affordable tickets can be found on the following routes:
Calais-Dunkirk
Calais-Dover
Newhaven-Dieppe
Eurostar London-paris
Dynamic pricing
It is important to note that both ferry and train operators use dynamic pricing. This means that as a specific crossing becomes more popular and bookings increase, the prices will also rise. Therefore, it is always essential to book as early as possible to secure the best rates.
Foot passengers vs drivers
The lowest starting prices displayed on this page apply to foot passengers. However, not all operators allow travel as a foot passenger, so it’s important to check in advance.
Book as a Day-trip
If you’re looking for a day trip to France, the shortest routes mentioned on this page are often also the cheapest. An additional advantage is, of course, that with a short crossing, you have plenty of time left to spend in France.
Regions like Nord-Pas-De-Calais, Haute Normandie, and Picardie are particularly appealing for a day visit due to their close proximity to the arrival ports. Paris might be just a bit too far for a cost-effective visit with your own car on a day trip, but the Auto Train through the Eurotunnel could provide a solution. Additionally, passenger trains from London offer an excellent option for a day trip to Paris. This can even be very affordable if you book in advance.
Special offers
You can take advantage of special offers, particularly during the low season. These promotions are listed on the operators’ websites linked on this page.
